Company Overview

We Are CHP

Founded in 1975, Community Housing Partners (CHP) provides quality-built, responsibly managed, service-enriched homes for low-income individuals and families across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Building on a long-standing tradition of environmental, economic, and social responsibility, CHP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works with private and public partners to develop and preserve award-winning homes and neighborhoods. Together with our partners, we revitalize communities, foster stability for our residents, and promote a healthier planet for future generations.

Our more than 350 employees deliver a wide range of services, including real estate development, construction, energy services and training, asset management, property management, realty and homeownership, and comprehensive resident services. We champion housing stability, and our work within our communities reflects our core values of resilience, impact, stewardship, and equity.

We are a chartered member of NeighborWorks America and a member of Federation of Appalachian Housing Enterprises (FAHE), Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF), and the Housing Partnership Network (HPN). Since 1975, CHP has invested more than $410 million in communities through real estate development.

Our Vision

Healthy, sustainable communities for everyone.

Equity & Inclusion

Our Equity Statement
Community Housing Partners is committed to being a strong and effective partner to communities and individuals confronting social, environmental, and economic injustices.

CHP’s core values have always reflected what is truly important to us as an organization and they have set the standard for the way we serve and the attitudes we exhibit. Our previous core values – innovation, integrity, quality, service, and sustainability – remain a key part of who we are, but we have now incorporated those values into four core areas that allow us to focus more intentionally and clearly on our current key priorities.

Beginning in 2021, CHP’s core values are RISE: ResilienceImpactStewardship, and Equity.

  • Resilience: We maintain a level of preparedness and agility that enables us to respond to opportunities and adapt quickly to change and adversity thus ensuring ongoing service to our communities, partners, and clients.

  • Impact: We promote long-term positive outcomes for those we serve through dedication to our mission and evaluation of our impact to drive continuous improvement.

  • Stewardship: We are responsible for the thoughtful management of CHP’s resources and therefore hold ourselves accountable for the well-being of our employees, our partnerships, our communities, and the natural environment.

  • Equity: We work to break down barriers that perpetuate social, economic, and environmental disparities through a commitment to inclusive processes and equitable opportunities within our organization and for the communities we serve.

Equity and Inclusion Team
CHP seeks to create an environment with a shared understanding of systemic injustices, to raise awareness of implicit and explicit bias, and to develop an organizational framework for advancing equity and inclusion. Established in 2015, CHP’s Equity and Inclusion Team evolved from a nascent committee working to define itself to a cohesive team of 15 staff members from across the company with a clear purpose: to hold CHP accountable for our commitment as an organization to be a strong and effective partner to marginalized communities and individuals confronting injustices.

CHP recognizes that conditions, access, and opportunities differ for everyone, and that these differences are a result of both intentional and unintentional decisions that have been made and continue to be made across every aspect of our society. We are working through the development, implementation, and application of equitable and inclusive policies and practices that influence every aspect of our work.

The following three goals guide this work:

  • Communications and engagement: To promote an environment of shared learning and to create an awareness of systemic injustices

  • Learning and development: To improve the intercultural competence of CHP employees and thus their effectiveness

  • Organizational commitment to equity and inclusion: To ensure that equity and inclusion priorities are incorporated into all of CHP’s internal and external work

Prioritizing Equity
Equality is about equal inputs (e.g. resources, support, and opportunities) and assumes that everyone starts from the same place, whereas equity is about equal outcomes (e.g. performance, achievement, and health) and assumes that conditions are not the same and everyone starts from different places. CHP is working to bring an equity framework to all that we do — from our major strategic priorities to the countless small decisions we make every day. As our organization continues to learn and grow, we will also seek opportunities to re-think our work through the lens of equity and inclusion.
