Location: Yorktown, Virginia (United States Coast Guard Training Center)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Day Shift

Compensation: $34.10 - $34.10/hour

Skookum is seeking a dedicated and reliable Plumber I with a positive attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain, repair, inspection of all plumbing equipment and piping systems.

  • Remove blockage from drain lines, both interior and exterior sewers and storm drainage systems.

  • Adjust, repair or replace leaky joints, faucets and other outlets as necessary to maintain proper and efficient operation of all related plumbing systems including, but not limited to, hot water systems, chilled water systems, potable water systems, compressed and vacuum air systems, valves, natural gas systems, and other associated systems, equipment and components.

  • Install and repair domestic, commercial water heaters, hot water storage tanks and plumbing fixtures, equipment and components, including commodes, urinals, kitchen and utility sinks, water fountains, frost-proof hydrants, showers, bathtubs, lavatories, shower pans, garbage disposals, valves, pumps, and associated equipment and components.

  • Install or replace water, air, natural gas, sewage and water/storm fixtures such as sewage lines, water closets, lavatories, showers, sinks, gas heaters, stoves, air compressor equipment, cooling towers, grease traps, garbage disposals, floor drains, piping systems for heating and cooling, and associated equipment and components.

  • Operate, clean, and maintain required tools and special equipment.

  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and fixtures.

  • Knowledge of code requirements during installations, repairs and maintenance.

  • Maintain preventive maintenance and repair records.

  • Read and understand drawings, work plans and maps.

  • Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.

Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in Plumbing preferred.

  • Knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations preferred.

  • Must have general knowledge of plumbing and be able to use hand tools, power tools and appliances required for the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and pipes.

  • Must be able to follow maintenance instructions, service and diagnose systems, and complete repairs. Knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • Valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum's insurance.

  • State of Virginia Backflow Testing License.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
