Job Description
MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center is looking for a qualified PA candidate to join our growing team of 13 highly skilled Advanced Practice Providers. We offer a supportive team environment with hands-on training from our surgeons, residents, and fellow APP's. This position offers exposure to multiple surgical specialties. We are a Robotic surgery center of excellence, and our new state-of-the-art 14 OR surgical pavilionsupports an array of innovations, advanced multispecialty surgical techniques, and cutting-edge medical imaging.This position is solely at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, an academic, tertiary, community-based hospital -- one of the largest community teaching hospitals with busiest ED in the state of Maryland.
Job opportunity is split between inpatient rounding and OR time. Perform a variety of duties such as HxPs as well as providing care to assigned patients.Post-operative rounding is a combination of both fellow surgeons and physician assistants. PAs are first call for consults, independently with attending presence, as needed. Experienced PAs from a surgical field or new graduates with a strong interest in surgery will be considered. Work as a 0.9FTE full-time employee with a weekly schedule consisting of (3) 12hr shifts with 1-2 weeknights on call per two-week periods.

Job Summary
- First Assist in General Surgery, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Thoracic, Ob/Gyn, GynOnc, and Vascular surgery procedures
- Perioperative patient management
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic lab tests
- Conducting surgical history and physical exams
- Inpatient rounding and consultations
- Wound care and bedside procedures under direct and indirect supervision
- Perform medication reconciliation and help to arrange appropriate post-discharge follow up for all surgical patients.
- Patient/family education
- Collaborate with the physician and other clinical staff members to maintain continuity of care.
- Participate in developing, reviewing, and revising medical/surgical protocols.
- Participate in training of staff and students
