Be part of a dynamic team, drive technological advancements, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of maritime defense. If you're ready for a challenging and rewarding career, apply now to be at the forefront of naval engineering excellence.
D495, Planning Yard Fleet Support Engineering, is seeking a well versed systems engineer as an integral team member to the Availability Support Group. The engineer will help champion effective configuration management and quality assurance of drawings, technical variance documentation (TVD), and liabilities applicable to commissioned VIRGINIA, OHIO, and SEAWOLF Class submarines. This role supports the planning, execution, and certification of ongoing fleet maintenance and CNO availability work.
The position requires routine interaction with the Naval Shipyards (NSYs), NAVSEA PMS392 and PMS450, the submarine maintenance community, and EB engineering and design personnel to provide drawing, TVD, and liability quality assurance for VIRGINIA, OHIO, and SEAWOLF Class vessels. The engineer will also be a key contact for using his/her technical depth of knowledge of submarine systems and design, focusing on delivered ships, as well as leveraging engineering and design expertise across EB's lead design and planning yards. This position may require occasional travel to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (ME), Norfolk Naval Shipyard (VA), Washington Engineering Office (DC) and potentially other locations in the conduct of quality assurance for drawings and liabilities and interaction with customers which includes representatives from EB, NAVSEA, NSYs, and the maintenance community.
As a key technical point of contact, the successful candidate must maintain Technical Instruction (TI) oversight, including Earned Value Management System (EVMS) progressing and reporting, along with annual call for tasking input. The engineer will be expected to become closely involved in ongoing drawing issues using his/her own initiative and management skills. This includes developing agendas, leading internal and external meetings, developing meeting minutes, and executing action plans utilizing teams of engineers, designers, and technical support personnel that he/she will evolve and help orchestrate. This will require a good understanding of drawing, Engineering Report, and Auto-Revision processes, TVD documentation, and Engineering Configuration Management requirements, which are areas of concern identified by fleet maintainers with VIRGINIA drawings. He/she will be required to assist in the resolution of ongoing/emergent issues using independent judgement and vision for new processes and products. This position is a great opportunity for an engineer seeking to advance his/her technical project management experience for future growth opportunities.
