Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for processing and completing payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees for all US-based BCI associates at the Norfolk, Virginia headquarters as well as associates based in Florida, Texas, California, Michigan, and New York.  This position reports to the Sr. Director of Human Resources with a dotted line (indirect report) to the VP of Finance.


JOB FUNCTIONS
Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
  • Processing weekly and bi-weekly payrolls including all related payroll functions, taxes, bonuses, deductions, benefits, garnishments, retirement, year-end processes including W-2s and 1099s
  • Prepare and submit payroll reports to management or government agencies as required.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports related to payroll expenses.
  • Conduct account analysis and reconciliation of payroll accounts.
  • Prepare payroll budget spreadsheet.
  • Prepare accruals for PTO Liability, bonus & commission liability, and monthly payroll expense for the last pay period of each month.
  • Maintains vacation and other exception time records (i.e. bereavement, jury duty, etc.)
  • Assist employees that have payroll questions or issues.
  • Helps ensure payroll practices meet government compliance.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one (3) years of payroll experience is required.
  • Knowledge of timekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multitask and prioritize demands.
  • Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated organizational and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively; listen, maintain confidentiality, speak professionally, and learn process and procedures quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.  Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and responds to internal customer needs in a timely manner.
