Job Description

General Summary of Position
Delivers and stocks clean linen and picks up soiled linen, including: pillow cases, sheets, draw sheets, mattress pads, blue pads, blankets, thermal blankets, towels, washcloths, patient gowns, and hamper bags to/from nursing units and designated departments throughout the Washington Hospital Center.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Delivers clean linen to assigned nursing units/departments using linen cart. Straightens and inventories supply of linen on the unit and enters the amount on hand into a portable, hand held computer. Replenishes/stocks linen in accordance to the printout from the computer. Upon return to linen supply room repacks cart(s). Delivers clean linen in response to special or STAT laundry orders/requests.
  • Retrieves soiled linen from designated locations throughout the Washington Hospital Center and transports it to the Soiled Linen Room.
  • Ensures that work area is clean, orderly, and safe by sweeping, cleaning, straightening, and reporting damaged carts or other distribution equipment to group leader or supervisor.
  • Assists in unloading of clean laundry carts from the delivery truck.
  • May issue scrubs, lab coats, etc. from the uniform area.
  • May upload and download portable, hand held computers as needed.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • A minimum of 3 years of directly relevant job-related experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.

    Experience

    • 0 to 6 months experience required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Requires the ability to read, write and perform basic addition and subtraction.
    • Requires the ability to comply with basic oral and written instructions.
